Menopause is not a disease, but a transition

OMG! Why is the topic of menopause so TABOO? I don’t remember any conversations about menopause from the women around. I would hear them say “whew chile, I’m having my own personal summer” and it would be 35 degrees outside. However, I can totally relate to what they were talking about. I found out exactly how they felt after I had a full hysterectomy 11 years ago due to endometriosis.

My life really did change, and I felt alone with no guidance or support. I was only 30 years old. I remember having my first HOT FLASH and I was like what in the world is this! I got so hot from my head to my feet and sweat began to pour, all I wanted to do was jump in my deep freezer butt naked, LOL.

Today, I talk to women all over the world about their menopausal journey from different aspects such as home, church and work, and sex life. We are seeing more women open about having menopause conversations, but there is still work to do. I am on a mission to even see more women of color speak up and be represented more as the face of women in menopause.

I am not the face you see when you do a google image search on menopause. I mean there are a lot of women in menopause not old, white or wrinkled. Where is the diversity? Nevertheless, don;t let menopause dictate your life, you have resources and communities to support you in managing your MENO.
